Get to know a little bit more about our Sales Director, David Sampson
A great phrase to describe our Sales Director, David Sampson is “A straight up guy who will always do his best!”. Always friendly and ready to assist, he’s a sensible, easy-going and approachable kind of person who finds joy in the little things. He’s a doer and a go-getter, but he also appreciates some fun along the way.
Family plays a very big part in his life! A dad of three, he knows that time is scarce and precious. That is why David and his wife Natalie enjoy being on the water sailing with their kids just to be involved with their children sailing activities!
Yes! His passion for the ocean and for boats runs through whole family. And not only that, he also inherited this interest in yachting from his parents. They also loved getting on the water. “We had all kinds of different boats growing up and my dad bought me a Manly Junior when I was 10 which got me totally hooked. I love all different types of yachts, the way they look, the way they work and the way they perform is fascinating!”, says Sampson.
Now, read our interview with David Sampson:
How did you start your career in the yachting industry?
I did a boatbuilding apprenticeship with McConaghy Boats in Mona Vale and studied Naval Architecture.
Building one-off racing yachts really excited me and motivated me to take my career in our industry as far as I could. For the last 20 years I have worked for myself project managing new build yachts and refits and sailing professionally.
Racing… tell us about the importance/impact it has in your & your family’s life?
Sail boat racing has been a huge part of my life. From dinghy’s through to superyachts, I have been very lucky to sail and race on some amazing boats in some incredible locations, and doing it for a job …well that’s just a dream!
Now my two eldest kids are racing various centreboard classes and I love seeing them develop into great sailors.
I think anyone who has done some sailing and especially racing, knows how great the feeling is when you get a sailing boat going fast!!
How did you get involved with Vicsail?
I have known Brendan forever! Prior to working directly for Vicsail, I did a lot of great projects with him.
We got to chatting a year or so ago. The timing was right to move into a job closer to home rather than being OS all the time!
What’s is your role at Vicsail – describe what you offer.
I am predominantly responsible for New Yacht Sales, and also responsible for all larger brokerage yachts.
I am really enjoying working with Nautor’s Swan, CNB, Sunreef and Leonardo Yachts. They are all great brands and they offer high end yachts that are certainly interesting to sell.
As my background is racing yachts, I tend to focus on that segment of our business. It’s great to assist clients to find the right boat for them, and as such, we work a lot as buyers’ agents to do just that!
What do you think makes you a good yacht broker?
Having worked directly for yacht owners for the last 20 plus years, I have experience in looking after their best interest when it comes to their boats. I strive to retain that focus for each sale I make, so both the vendor and the buyer have complete transparency in the transaction. If I can share some of my experiences and provide a great level of service, then I feel I have done a good job.
