Karalee was designed by Alan Payne in the late 1940’s for Mr Tom Mulhearn of Hunter’s Hill and built by Reg and Cyril Morrow at their yard in Balmain.
She was launched in 1952 and has always called Sydney harbour her home.
Karalee is a superb example of a classic harbour cruising yacht from that period, and has been lovingly maintained by the curent owner who has painstakingly refitted/ restored the boat as required to keep her in first class condition. Over the years Karale has succesfully competed in classic yacht regattas, and with her powerful sail plan she is rewarding to sail. She is also very easy to sail single or short-handed thanks to the self tacking staysail and autopilot!
Karalee is listed on the Australian Maritime Museums histoic vessel register- # HV000293.

- Cutter rigged, two- spreader aluminium mast with additional jumper-struts to support the topmast. 1 x19 wire rigging replaced July 2023. Alloy boom with slab reefing set up and supported with boom trots. Forestay is fitted with Furlex 204S manual headsail furler and staysail is rigged with a “Club” boom for self-tacking and easy handling, and there is a spinnaker pole on track stored on the mast.
