History of Vicsail
Vicsail launched into the Australian sailing industry in 1983. And the business has been going like the wind ever since. Brendan and Jo Hunt first established Vicsail in Victoria, using their own yacht as their first listing. From this modest beginning, the business has grown over the last 30 years. As a result, it has become the premier yachts brokering network in Australasia.
Today, Vicsail comprises a network of brokers, each specialising in their own area of expertise.
Vicsail, still under the guidance of founder Brendan Hunt. We are focused on multihulls and international sales working with brands like CNB yacht builders, Heliotrope, Nautor’s Swan, and Sunreef Yachts. We work with both new and second-hand boats.
Vicsail also offers marine specific services, which includes insurance and financing, tailored to sailors needs.
MEET OUR TEAM
We created Vicsail in 1983 as Jo and I arrived back from sailing the Pacific. Australia was winning the Americas Cup, so it seemed logical to keep sailing and avoid going back to teaching music and singing “Yachtie” bars.
It has been an exciting 30+ year journey with boats and people. Over the years my sailing interests have shifted towards especially multihulls. They are the perfect example of the sailing and cruising dream, such easy living with family and friends.
Outside of boats, my interests are making music, surfing, and skiing.
As CFO for Vicsail, I manage the accounts, suppliers, and other statutory matters. I also have the pleasure of dealing with the European boat yards on operational issues on new builds, and shipping and importation. This adds a very interesting element to my role.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit several of the factories that we work with in France. It is mind blowing and worth a visit! Outside of work you will find me on the Bronte coastal walk, I also like snorkelling at Clovelly.
I work with our clients in finding the perfect boat for them. My favourite thing about multihull cruising is the open spaces to relax with friends and enjoy a nice meal and a bottle of wine or two, (or three!) .
When I’m not selling boats, I enjoy racing my 18 foot on Sydney Harbour. I also enjoy racing a 100 footer. In winter, I love shooting down to Thredbo for a quick weekend on the slopes too.
Being a marketer for Vicsail is such an amazing opportunity. I have the chance to do a 360 marketing, from social media, communication to our clients’ database, website, PR, events, online marketing, videos, photos, and design. My main goal is to grow awareness for Vicsail and the brands we represent in Australia. I think that we are very lucky at Vicsail to work with such fascinating products, it makes the whole job really enjoyable and we’re as happy as the customers when it comes to going for a sea trial. Outside the office, I like to spend time with family and friends.
My role is to support the team by helping to list and update the boats, respond to incoming enquiries and prepare boats for viewing. I worked in advertising but have a made a ‘sea change’ to yachts. I am a keen photographer and videographer, especially of boats. I discovered sailing at ‘Rose Bay sailing school’ when I was 12 and love to get out for a twilight or Saturday race.
